I’m sleeping

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Here I am. Reading* the “Effects of Rail Stations at Airports in Europe” a paper sponsored by the TRB Committee on Airport Terminals and
Ground Access (that committee exists?). I keep searching for terms like “bike,” “pedestrian,” and “tell me when this article gets less boring,” but to no avail. The good news is there isn’t a test. I just need to be prepared to talk about it on Wednesday to the professor who needs to write me a killah recommendation for job slots.

Speaking of which, Peter got himself a summer job slot in San Francisco working for some solar environmental savetheearth energy company. Were they the same ones that blew up San Bruno? Tough news. But excited to hear you finally get to put your climate change palm pixi to work. Win!

Speaking of winning, I am drafting a letter to Rahm Emanuel asking him to put me in charge of the streets. Here’s what I have so far:

Dear Mayor Emanuel,

I heard the news about your new job as the Mayor of Chicago. Mazel Tov! This is great news.

I also heard the news that Chicago sold their parking. This is sad news. Need help? Call 630-55-Sweet. (real #) I’ll hook you up.

Good Day

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

I woke up and it was 60 degrees and sunny so I got up to go to the gym skinny cafe and as I skipped down my stoop and said hi to the flower shop man and the water ice man and the laundry ladies I’m pretty sure this song was playing in the background. It’s like a nappy roots sesame street episode. And then I yelled at a car for blocking the crosswalk whoops. Alex the grouch?

Srsly doesn’t it make you the happiest? Like snapping down the street? Snappy style?

Casual Update Thursdays

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

There I was, sitting in my studio waiting for my studio group to show up when KaitlinRat sends me a link to wedding dresses she likes and I click on it and look at the wedding dresses then GC BDoyk sends a link of James Franco sleeping on his couch with cats and then I click on it and look at the photo of James Franco sleeping on his couch with cats and then the Wharton student in my group casually walks in and sits behind me while I sit there toggling back and forth between a photo of James Franco sleeping on his couch with cats and photos of wedding dresses Kaitlin likes. Then he coughs, and is like really? And I’m like, Dream big. #thingsaregoingreallywell

Speaking of which:

He put a ring on it. #iknowomgomgomgomgomg

Tranny Research

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

For Tranny (Transportation) Seminar, each student has to write a research paper. Ben Tranny took notes on the Q&A after my Prospectus presentation a few weeks ago. I’m just reading them now:

Are buses a bigger problem than just cars turning right?  If cars are the bigger problem, then wouldn’t it make more sense to study cars + bikes?

Cars have more flexibility, I’m primarily interested in streets w transit service.

ACS hit her funny bone on the podium.

200 word powerpoints

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

It’s 2:52am. I know wtf right? I just finished a powerpoint presentation about Ballston Metro in Arlington, VA as a case study for transit-oriented development (tod).

Guess who just asked me to connect on Linked-In? Creepy.

That about sums it up

Listen to This

Monday, February 21st, 2011

I’m really into this song. Except the part where he says:

“Follow me, follow me I’m the leader

And when I park cars I don’t pay for the meter.”

You should always pay for the meter, kids.

Great news. Grandpa Lou is producing things like movies and web series and such. Here is his latest project, Reception. I was a receptionist once at Optimus and I had to announce phone calls over the building loud speaker. I was really good at tranferring calls. Graham skipped this step. Instead of being a receptionist he was a librarian for the video library. He didn’t have to make announcements on the loud speaker. But I had better views. We both win?

See his new series, Reception, here.
