Canceled flights and Burger Dayz

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

SarahSweeter’s flight got canceled. I know. Skies are clear. Winds are 6mph. But she got a text from Southwest and then shrieked and then went on the internet and got a seat on a 6:15am flight tomorrow. This is good news.

Last night we went to the Beer Bistro because Tuesdays are $2 burger dayz and Ma Sweeter ordered us 3 Delirium Tremens and we told her she had to drink her beers slowly because usually she drinks the beers fastly then gets tired and so we had a contest to see who could drink theirs the most slowly and Ma Sweet lost. And then got tired. But not before she said “I am so PLEASED with this beer bistro!” times 5.

The Dopis: A Short Story

Monday, December 27th, 2010

The first ipod I ever got I named Dopi and I loved him a lot but one day Ma Sweet was walking me down Michigan Avenue said you should have a newer dopi here you go and so I said ok bye Old Dopi I love you but you’re old and I gave him to my roommate and named my new dopi Dopi Deuce and we were so happy for a long time until he died this summer (death by magnet) and this was sad news and I cried in traffic but this year Ma and Pa Dopi were like don’t cry here’s a baby dopi ta da and I said yaaaaaaaaaaay I will name you Dopi Tres. He is two days old and plays Girl Talk like a champ. We are so heppy. The end.

“It’s vay-cay-shun!”

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

Last night we went out to dinner with Pa Sweet and Pa Sweet Sr. We ate meat. Then we took the train home omg I love trains. Then we got home and Ma Sweet ate our leftovers and then we sat in the bathroom and talked about boyfriends boys that might be our boyfriends one day fingers crossed!!! This place is the best. Does this photo make you uncomfortable? Sarah is uncomfortable because her bathroom looks like a mess but really it is just filled with expensive things like perfume bottles, feelings, and a personal steamer. Steamed feelings! What does that mean? More photos here.

I got up at 4am and then I got in a cab and I was like TAKE ME TO CHICAGO! And he was like I can take you to the airport and I was like ok that’s fine do you take cards? And then I got a window seat in the THIRD ROW which does wonders for my flight panic attacks because I pretend that I am in a room that shakes a little bit instead of a metal tube that is not on the ground and then I fell asleep and then I woke up and it was 7:35am in Chicago and Ma Sweet picked me up and then we came home and she fed me cappucinos and eggs and sarahsweet gave me presents and then they both went to work and now i don’t know what to do with myself so I made a to-do list of things to do, like Go see the Uboat at the Museum of Science and Industry, eat biscotti, update business card. Now I am going to drink some tea, eat a biscotto, and take some public transportation to go shopping for party dresses with sarahsweet. Vacation is easy. Here’s a song. My favorite is the aggressive snapping at 1:06.

Remember December 20th, 2009? Today=Pt II. Flights canceled. sitting at home pouting and waiting for my instant chocolate pudding to gel in the fridge. That sentence gives me second hand embarrassment. I was supposed to be at home drinking hot toddies with sarahsweet. We video-chatted instead. Look how much fun we’re having.

UPDATE: Just kidding it was more like this.

Email of the Day

Saturday, December 18th, 2010

“Your work has been endorsed with great enthusiasm to several distinguished individuals during the delegation tour – from Paul Levy at CCD, to Sam Schwartz at SSE, to New York City DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Kahn, to the Director of Policy at Times Square Alliance, to the Netherlands Consul General in New York. There were discussions about how to showcase the work, and there will be a year-long exhibit of the Renobacion Urbano process, including your studio work, in the old “Foot Locker” space on Oranjestad’s main street where it will be viewed by thousands of residents and visitors.”  - The American Planning Association guy in charge of our aruba studio.

Here’s a photo of the Aruba Minister with JSK the day after our presentation.

And here’s a sample conversation I will have with JSK in January at the transportation research board annual conference:

Oh hey JSK.

Oh hey.

Hey. Ya, I did the Aruba thing.

You’re hired.

Alright chikadees guess what? Tomorrow I am going to wake up, read over my final essay for spelling errors, print it, take it to campus, crumple it up, throw it in the garbage, take it out of the garbage, smooth it out, and hand it in. Then I’m going to drink a handle of Aruban rum and do a little dance.

Oranjestad Presentation

Today was the final review of our Aruba Studio presentations. There were a bunch of Aruban ministers and government people and also professors and chairs from our department and other penndesign departments and also some architects and landscape architects and planners and I have gotten a total of 10 hours of sleep in the past three days and I also have a cough and a cold and no voice and I went up and I gave my presentation and tried to sound smart and there were a lot of questions and I answered all of them and then the president of the american planning association gave me some tips and then at the end one of my professors asked the Aruban ministers what they thought of my project and they announced It will work in Aruba and the people will embrace it and I said ok thank you. Then I walked off stage, hugged Lauren Gaito, and burst into tears.

Grad school is just full of emotional rollercoasters.
