We were part of a conference in Aruba called Renobacion Urbano II (the first took place back in June). The organizer of the conference is a penn grad and invited his cousin to film the conference and take photos and interview some participants.

And then he posted this on my facebook wall.

My birthday is on Friday. I know. This happens every year. I am not prepared, emotionally or socially. ¬†Instead let’s talk about Aruba.

A broader understanding of the Aruban culture.

We presented our visions for the future of San Nicolas to the ministers of Aruba. Then we went to the beach. I ate fish sticks. Went snorkling. And chased the feeshes.

Last night after drinking 17 beers and winning in doggy-paddle relay races in the hotel pool, I realized I had left my camera in the net pocket of the seat on the bus that took us from the restaurant to our hotel. This morning, at 7:30am, I went out early to the bus that was sitting outside our hotel waiting to take us to a conference and told the driver about my lost camera. His English was not so great and at one point he smiled and nodded when I told him how sad I was and this I found discomforting. He said he would call the other buses to see if they had found it. I decided this was hopeless and immediately went into mourning. For the rest of the day I did addition and subtraction in my head and determined I would have to buy a new camera within the next 24 hours if I wanted to be a successful urban planner/blogger/food photographer.

Then miracles happened and security guards were called and some ministers were summoned and at the end of the conference today I walked onto the bus to go back to the hotel and our instructor from the Netherlands handed me a bag and said, here you go.

Then I held it up and everyone on the bus cheered and then I sat down and my camera and I had a private moment and decided never to be apart again until I buy a better one.

In other new: my flip flops broked.
