Friendship Song

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Remember when I cried for two days made that video slideshow type situation about friendship?

Here’s the song.  You can download it here.  It’s LCD Soundsystem.  The song is called All My Friends.  I know.  gag.

Also, how do I upload a quicktime version of the video for real time scrolling purposes?  Youtube doesn’t play that game.  ChanTyce?  /jec?  Grandpa Lou?

This Makes Me Uncomfortable

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Remember when this happened?  Well Ma Sweet gave me her laptop to work with in the meantime and so it has all of Ma Sweet’s music on it, which is fine.  Except that sometimes when I’m feeling angsty/self-involved reflective and I’m listening to angsty/self-involved reflective music it can be startling when itunes is on shuffle and this happens.

for real.  Kaitlin and Zach hosted a Bring it on Danny BBQ last night.  We grilled things and play bananagrams and listened to 15 second-year med students talk about kidney transplants.  Ya, someone said, the best place to be for organ donation is in Texas where all the young people are reckless.  Good.  Then I talked about trains and nobody listened.  tjk.  Here’s a photo of me making smores with all of my new friends.

Ethiopian Food Action Shots

Friendship making practice real deal.  Went out for Ethiopian food last night with new classmates.  I took a photo of the food but I was nervous and it came out blurry and everybody was sitting there staring at me and I kept saying, go ahead, I need action shots!  Here’s an action shot.

Furniture Building

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I built a baker’s rack.  Twice.  The first time I assembled it upside down.  I don’t know how it happened.  I’m getting my master’s in planning not building.

Here are photos.  Is this not exciting?

In other news, while discussing biking with two new classmate friends(right?), one friend brought up critical mass.  I sat there quietly pumping my bike tires while their conversation quickly turned from biking to nude biking to nude beaches to nude running.  Ya gross, they agreed, who wants to see that??   I said nothing.  Too soon, I think.  Too soon.

I’m Making Friends?

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Tonight my program had an impromptu happy hour.  I heard about it via text message whilst back-to-school shopping with K.Bear.  I biked over.  I’m not sure how much to divulge here.  Internet sharing makes me nervous.  I am not the oldest student in the program.  Nor am I the youngest.  Three people hail from Hyde Park and two people have heard of my hometown. One of them kept calling me “dude.”  He has a pool in his building.  I asked if we had to be friends for me to use the pool.  He gave me the building passcode.  Friendship win?

Boot Camp Day 1

Monday, August 24th, 2009

I felt prepared.   I had my folder, my notebook, my bike tire patch kit, my new computer, my book bag, and my first day of school outfit (stressed).  And then I slept in.  I didn’t miss anything.  But I did bike really hard in strappy sandals which is desperate and also ill-advised.  I was supposed to walk with my SubGC, but I blew it.  I asked if our friendship was over and she forgave me (win).

After the first hour of Statistics Review by our dept chair who kept using Religion as an example for sample data, “Let’s say there are 100 Jews… I’m a Jew, you’re a Jew, etc,” we had a welcome luncheon.  Zomg free food.   Everyone at my table was simultaneously self-deprecating and giddy.  Blend?  Then I picked up my Penn ID, looked for Wharton boyfriends friends at the Graduate Student Center, and biked home to stare at my copy of Adobe Creative Suite 4.  Oh Adobe Photoshop, you will make me so happy.

Also, remember when I went to VT and we had a lot of leftovers but nobody wanted to carry anything on the train so A.Danger Mention volunteered to take home the Jeager?

Also deuce, I need to make friends with cameras because photo-less blog posts are boring, right Peter?  What do you do on the train when there isn’t a picture?  Use your imagination or just stare at the reflection of your French Archeologist mustache in the screen of your Climate Change blackberry?

Day 7

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

I hung out with my substitute GC last night and now THIS is coming back to haunt me.  She lives a few blocks away and apparently another city planning student just moved in downstairs so we knocked on her door to make bestfriends.  Then we shared secrets.  They both own PCs.  No judgment zone.  And then today I got on my bike for the first time after half an hour of trying to unlock the ULock with the wrong key and getting mean eyes from a helmet-less couple biking on the sidewalk wtf.  These streets are narrow.  And there are no bike lanes.  But I’m brave (emotionally physically).  In other good news:  My sink has a food disposal which I think makes me an adult.

Tomorrow: Boot camp Day 1.  Bring it.

Here’s a song to get you amped.
