Auto Reply: I’m in VT

Maine 2008

I’m going to VT tomorrow for the weekend.  I know.  Fortunately so is Peter so my lack of blogging shouldn’t be much of a problem. (I’m already bracing for the plummeting numbers on my graph-o-self-esteem considering 95% of the readers will be with me, mom can you check it more often while I’m gone please?)

I’ll probably be spending the majority of time running around, doing this and maybe some of this.  Speaking of which, if, during my absence, you need reading material, you should catch up on Lydia’s contributions to The Millions.  Like this one.  Or all of them.  Or you can email Berna and ask if our love means nothing to her.  Really?  You can’t come?  We’re already two months into our 7 year long-distance girl crush trial separation and you can’t come for one night?  Is this the wrong venue to express these sentiments?  Whatever I’ll try to live-blog my feelings from someone’s wireless flipphone if I manage to get a break from nesting, spooning, and all over friendship city.

It’s official.  Am I being dramatic?

Ladies Night Love

Monday, July 27th, 2009

I don’t want to talk about it but I was running late tonight to see my bff4life at the ladies only bike class.  I ran in half expecting her to grin, wink,  and wave me in but when I came rushing down the stairs I did not see my ladybff4life but some other lady substitute teacher who was already half way through her Wheels ‘n Spokes lecture.  And it was hella boring.   So I spent the majority of the class pouting in the back row before I went to sugar sweet sunshine bakery and used my $1.50 gift certificate from Peter’s climate change club to eat my feelings.  Romance is hard.

Frames & Sock Hops

Friday, July 24th, 2009

When Grandpa Lou came with me yesterday to pick up my new frames I demanded he take pictures for documentation but instead he spent most of the time trying the frames on and photoshopping photos of himself and asking Jose the Moscot Man if the frames were bisexual unisex so he could get a pair too.  Trendsetting.

Then I went to Mald’s birthday party in Tribeca where everyone wears high heels and long necklaces.  Apparently it is also where PeterB and I attended a sock hop in 1957.

At the Hop

The end.

Tetanus Shots and Tooth Molds

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

In anticipation of my impending trial separation from ny I have been ordering my health appointments in bulk and within the past week have hit up the dentist, the doctor, and the optometrist.  Consolation prizes included a tetanus shot, three viles of drawn blood, and my very own upper left cuspid-molar tooth-mold.  For the mantel?

I’ve also been shopping for eyeglasses which mostly involves looking at the glasses other people are wearing which is awkward because I’m staring at people’s eyes and then they return the stare and I have to look away, wait a beat, and look back.  Then they look back and everything is ruined.  Half of my subway train car last night is probably waiting for my craigslist missed connection post.  Thank god that’s over. Hello Dannee Brown.

Bike ‘n Share ‘n Bus ‘n Pay

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

“He’s increased the output of a standard Sturmey-Archer dynamo hub (commonly used to power bicycle headlights), set the more powerful dynamo to only kick in when the brake is engaged, and added an ultracapacitor to store the accumulated kinetic energy while the bike’s out and about.”  What?

Apparently some guy wants to pay you (in bus passes) to share bikes that create energy that can run a hybrid bus system.

Sounds complicated.  I’ll start paving some Class I bike lanes.

Cups, Cones, and Bearings

bike love

I’m in love with my ladies night bike mechanic.  This is not a joke.  Tonight was our second class together and seven people showed up and six people sat in the back row and guess who sat in the front row?  Me.  We only have one more class together so I’m going to spend the next week compiling a list of questions/pick-up-lines to keep her after class and woo her with my bike lane love so we can be bffs4life.  The good news is I paid attention and can adjust the hell out of my cups, cones, and bearings.  For example, I can now confidently say that the above bike tire is sufficiently f-ed.  Win.

Song of the Day

music border

Let’s do a song of the day.  Starting now!

It’s Friday, which is exciting for people who work.  So here’s a song called You Came Out by a band called, We Have Band.  I know, it’s confusing.

Trader Margaritas

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Last night was supposed to be Fix-Your-Own-Bike night at an evening bike workshop on the LES but the called for aggressive thunderstorms so I didn’t bring my bike to work and then it was 6:30p and it was sunny out but I didn’t have my bike and I was like ughhhhhhhhhhh so I decided to walk home to vent and by doing so I went into two stores I hate.  Oh Urban Outfitters and Trader Joe’s, why must your prices be so seductively low?   I bought hummus for $1.79 and a fuchsia t-shirt for $4.99.

By the time I had climbed the slope that is Park Slope the FreetZ was arriving off the train so we drank frozen margarita’s until midnight and cried about our impending trial separation “it doesn’t have to be forever! this is for the best! is that a coal factory painted into the jungle wall mural?”

Also yesterday I went rollerblading for the first time all summer and IT.FELT.GREAT. but today my ankles hurt. sports are hard.
