While I spent the weekend reading Streetsblog, eating local avocados, and biking through the Presidio, SarahSweet went to Indiana and did this:

It’s hard to say who’s winning. But last time I checked, gun beats boxing glove?

In other news, she also started her own Fleeker page. More here. Live action here.

A Tuesday To Do List

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Know what today is? No sleeps tuesdays! Ding aling a dingdong. Here’s the drill: Accumulate massive amounts of extra-curricular tasks, jobs, and responsibilities. Take the maximum number of academic credits. Make one of the credits a math class. Remain dedicated to your gym routine. And your head doctor routine. Buy tweed yarn balls from West Elm.

Now, take all of the above and put them together into one week and bingozingoblamo you’ve got nosleepstuesdays!

Here’s what will get done:

1. Job application due tomorrow (priority number one)

2. Read/grade/rank cover letters and CVs for Penn faculty search applicants (priority number two)

3. Write prospectus about transportation research paper that is already one week late (priority-ish)

4. Math homework that will take 30-40 hours and hurt my feelings (priority number one that got demoted four times)

5. Play the Gym/head doctor/husband search round-robin (rescheduled for next year)

6. Go to sleep (rescheduled for Wednesday) UPDATE: Rescheduled for Thursday

I got an automobus at 7am and went to the NYC and the internet didn’t work and I pouted but then listened to happy music to get amped and then I got to 55 Water Street and took the elevator (by myself) up to the NYCDOT on the 6th floor and met someone we will call SQ and I said Hi I’m here for the internship interview and  SQ said Ok whatya got? And I said Well, I can do this and this and this and this and this and this. And he was like well, this internship is unpaid and you have to be here 2 days a week and you live in Philly. And I said Ok well I’ll know my weekly schedule by next week to see if it’s possible. And SQ said Ok and then I said This is my dream job I’d love to work here. And SQ said We’d love to have you.

The good news: Read above.

The bad news: It’s not possible.

I can’t tell if I should drown my sorrows/happiness in a nap or a big bag of boxed wine.

House of Bland and Blahg!

RIGHT?! As in, god this food is so bland… it’s so blah. This blahg is so blah.  Brilliant, right?  I feel like such an idiot for not thinking of this three years ago. Should I change it? Do I have to buy a new web address domain? Do you think HouseofBlandandBlahg.com is taken yet? Do you think someone else is going to take it before me? Grad school really does make me smahter.

Let’s take a vote:

A. I LOVE IT! House of Bland and Blahg is genius you should totes switch everything immediately right now.

B. You’re the smartest person in the world but switching domain names sounds expensive and time consuming and change makes me nervous.

C. This is the dumbest idea in the world please take this post down.

D. I’m hungry.

A Joke but not really

We were part of a conference in Aruba called Renobacion Urbano II (the first took place back in June). The organizer of the conference is a penn grad and invited his cousin to film the conference and take photos and interview some participants.

And then he posted this on my facebook wall.

I am taking three classes.

Today was my first class: URBAN DESIGN STUDIO – THE PUBLIC REALM “URBAN DESIGN VISIONS FOR ARUBA”

We’re creating a master plan for the island of Aruba. I’m leaving on Wednesday for a 12 day honeymoon with 23 other urban design students. We’re staying at a hotel that shuttles its guests to its own private island every fifteen minutes. Aruba is expensive. In the hotel room the WiFi is $75 per week at the hotel. At the pool the WiFi is free. I don’t know how this works.

Here’s a fun fact. Did you know that all the Aruba hotels import palm trees from Florida so that their resorts can look like this? When really the entire island is an arid desert like this? And when I’m there more like this? (FINGERS CROSSED!)

Grad school is romantic.
