Yesterday I arrived early at the airplane station and I went up to the airplane station attendent and said can I fly home early? And she was like yes you can! and I got the last available seat on the early flight and it was the front row which means bad news no room for my carry-ons but great news I get to face a wall and pretend I’m on a train not a plane. I sat between a woman who played solitaire and a man who quickly established himself by name dropping DuPont and telling us how much he spends on dinner in Philadelphia. I countered and told him where I went to dinner last week for graduation and then I earned his respect and then he asked me for dinner recommendations in Chicago and I told him to go to La Sardine and get the fois gras because s’delicious.  Then we flew through 50 miles of thunderstorms and it felt like a big giant bully kept pushing us from the left side of the plane and I closed my eyes and pretended that the big giant bully was pushing a train not a plane. Then we landed and at the baggage carousel and mr dupont gave me some popcorn. Then my phone died. I don’t know if it’s dead but it’s def in a coma. Then Pa Sweet came and picked me up and we went to the Hinsdale where we ate dinner outside and talked about what exactly is “city planning” and he determined that I am a street architect which makes me happy. Then we took photos with his iphone and I said ok dad here’s you’re inspiration: I’m home! And he goes Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. And then I ate squid ink pasta. the end.

Alright well here I am and guess what? Penn gave me a diploma AND an award. I know. I’m not sure what the award was for but they had a separate award ceremony before the diploma ceremony. All the Schweetski’s came to watch and SarahSweeter filmed it. I’m the one waving. Speaking of awards, this video is going to Cannes. More photos later.

I’m in San Jose

This place is warm and also has mountains and the cab ride took 7 minutes from the airplane station to the Hotel De Anza where they upgraded me to the corner room Playwright Suite (it’s in cursive on a plaque on the door) and gave me “welcome cookies.” Srsly. Oatmeal raisin. I’m never leaving.

UPDATE: And there’s a free fruit bowl! I love a free fruit bowl.

Today was our graduation picnic. I’m running on nosleeps. I’m drunk on nosleeps. And also because I drank three beers at the graduation picnic. We had our superlative awards. I won the Jane Jacobs award which means that I will stop people from building highways through the middle of manhattan. And also because I have grey hair. I heard people were walking to the water so I’m going to walk to the water and follow them and bring Andy’s camera so I can take fancy photos. I took fancy photos at the picnic with Andy’s camera. Here’s one. More later. More here.

Everybody’s Winning

The FreetZ got into her top choice for grad school!

E.Dyke got engaged/into her top choice for a husband!

GC Berna finishes her semester on Friday!

And I’m going to Texas for the first 10 days of June. So. Yay.

I was going to rank this list but I can’t tell if getting a diamond ring or finishing the semester by friday would come first. #greatworkeveryonerealproudyous

It’s been a long time since I’ve been up all night but it’s 2:17am and I’m doing math homework and drinking a frappuccino and highliting things in my statistics book like, “the liklehood ratio tests can be used to ascertain the significance of predictors to the model.” The bad news is this homework was due last Tuesday whoops but I was in Boston trying to get the jobs. The chair of our dept teaches my math class and he knows I was in the Boston trying to get the jobs so s’all good.

In other news SarahSweeter was at the Coachella for the weekend. She lost her phone in the grass but then she found it at lost and found. That’s all I know so far.

Here’s a conversation I had with my studio instructor today. (Background: I’m in a four person studio group and we are developing a TOD (Transit-Oriented-Development) Concept for the Market East Station on Septa in downtown Philadelphia).

Instructor: Ok let’s see what you’ve done.

acsweet: Want to see my bike lane? I’m going to propose a center cycle track with three foot curb buffers, 10 ft through-lanes, 11 ft bus lanes, and 5 ft bike lanes and a center turning lane and near-side street lights what do you think?

Instructor: Great. It looks great. I love it.

acsweet: Ok I was going to do a plan view and a cross section and maybe a photo simulation, but so you also think I should I do a 3D rendering of it so people get a better idea of the perspective like they’re right there on the lane biking and feeling great?

Instructor: I wouldn’t waste your time. It’s not critical to the project.

acsweet: It’s critical to my future.

Instructor: ….

acsweet: ….

Instructor: Ok you can do a 3D rendering after you graduate and you’ll get all the jobs you want.

acsweet: Great thanks high five.

Guys great news ready?

1. I think I am going to pass math class. I know. Ok this isn’t for sure but I received my first assignment back and I got a check-plus which is a good sign because I thought I would get a minus or maybe a check-minus or if I was super lucky maybe just a check but I got a check PLUS and felt like the most statistically significant kid in town. (math jokes)

2. The dry cleaner knows my name. I know. Is that weird? They keep track of all their customers by telephone number and when I went to drop off my laundy tonight I said Hi… 630-94.. and he said, Sweet Alex! I am famous?

3. This weekend I am going to Boston for the American Planning Association Conference. This is very exciting. I get to see Uncle Paul and Aunt Daphne and wear fancy slacks and hand out high fives and bizzy cards hopefully to firms in NYC who want to hire me and pay me lots of dollar billz. I think that is also the summary on my resume.

That’s all I have thanks bye.
